The word yoga means many different things to many different people in modern American culture. At EEY we teach Classical Hatha Yoga from a lineage that began with Shri Yogendra who founded the Yoga Institute in Santa Cruz Mumbai, India.

Until the early 1900s yoga was practiced seriously only by yogis who could devote their lives to the practice. They were hermits in isolation among the Himalayan mountains, casting off possessions and creature comforts and spending their days practicing yoga and meditation. Shri Yogendra believing that regular, everyday people with families, work, and other commitments could benefit from practicing yoga, made it his life’s work to reach these “householders” and show them the value of maintaining a yoga practice.

East Eagle Yoga was founded by Nicole Chemi and Joe Finnerty in 2005. Over more than a decade they cultivated a strong community of yogis who through regular practice on their mat and self-examination have been able to become healthier, happier, and experience less suffering in their daily lives. Over 50 students have graduated from their 200 hour Yoga Teacher & Self Transformation Training and many have gone on to teach yoga themselves.

Jennifer Green is the current owner and a teacher at East Eagle Yoga. She is a long time student of East Eagle Yoga and graduated from the East Eagle Yoga teacher training program under Coleen Weir and Sara Drew.

We believe that developing a yoga practice allows for a more content and purposeful life. In a busy life, EEY is here for you so that you can find peace within yourself, maintain the rest of your life with more ease, and do it with a community of like minded yogi friends.
